This introductory presentation addresses what we were taught as children, such as why we brush and floss, why we have periodic dental check ups that often include x-rays and periodontal probes, why we wear braces, and why fluoride is added to drinking water and dental products.

These subjects will be considered in the context of what the actual risks to health are and whether or not we are addressing those risks in a reasonable and rational manner. The safety of each measure will considered along with alternatives that many may want to consider.

ORAL HEALTH 2

What really causes tooth decay and what measures actually help to prevent tooth decay. Which dental products are most effective and what oral hygiene practices reduce the risk of decay as well as periodontal problems such as bleeding, infection, and loosening of teeth.

The risks associated with infection will be discussed and a case will be made for the systemic nature of oral infections.

ORAL HEALTH 3

This lesson covers dental procedures and the materials used in dentistry such as fluoride, x-rays, novacaine (and other anesthetics), amalgam fillings, composite fillings, dental cements, retainers and braces, root canals, extractions, and dentures. Many of these materials are either toxic or they have disruptive effects on normal body processes. For instance, some materials mimic estrogen and interfere with the endocrine system.  This presentation will be a little longer than the others and most of the emphasis will be on fluoride and xenoestrogens.

This presentation will focus mainly on mercury with particular emphasis on amalgam fillings.  However, since the subject is huge, some references will be made to toxic metals in general as well as to other sources of exposure, the purpose being to empower people to recognize hazards and reduce their exposures and risks.  This presentation will also be a little longer since the subject is enormous.

The next four webinars are devoted to solutions to the issues raised in the introductory material. There is a small fee for enrollment. The fee is however waived for those who have supported the Institute with donations or crowdfunding of tuition.  If the amount suggested poses a hardship, please ask for a discount. There are expenses involved in hosting the webinars, web site, archives, and graphics for the slides.  In addition, a lot of time goes into research and preparation. The focus of this webinar will be on common oral health products, their ingredients, and the best substitutes for products that contain undesirable ingredients. Many products are mass produced by companies that are more concerned about microbial growths in their products than in the users of the products.  Some of the anti-fungal and antibacterial ingredients are dangerous. Sometimes, the additives are used strictly for aesthetic reasons, but they have no health benefits. Here, we will cover everything from toothbrushes and toothpaste to oral rinses, dental floss, waterpicks, tooth whiteners, and various products and approaches for remineralization of the teeth and tightening of the gums.

The question of whether or not to remove tonsils and adenoids will also be addressed as well as natural methods for aligning teeth and improving the bite.

This webinar will take up the subject of natural versus pathogenic microorganisms commonly found in the mouth. Even if some microbial issues were described earlier, the handling of risks that have migrated to other parts of the body will be addressed in this webinar. Hygiene and prevention are, of course, paramount, but certain neglected issues can impact how the immune system works.  Emphasis will be on identifying and treating underlying causes of conditions that are often regarded as unrelated.

There are two objectives in this webinar. The first is to cover fluoride and its deadly effects on health and consciousness. Removing fluoride and reversing fluorosis are very slow processes, but they can have incredible long-term benefits.

The second part of this webinar will address xenoestrogens, potent chemicals found in many dental products such as composite fillings and dental cements (bonding agents).  These chemicals are endocrine disruptors and can have effects that mimic estrogen. The ramifications are extraordinary and often ruinous. Safe alternatives will be described to the extent that such alternatives exist.

When it comes to oral toxicity, what is often center stage in people’s minds is mercury, but this is not usually the place to start when trying to improve oral health. Removing and replacing amalgam fillings is an expensive and often challenging undertaking.  It can be made easier by careful preparation. Since there are steps involved in removing the metals, these will be outlined, but they obviously involve reducing the exposure so as to lessen risks. There are beneficial life style changes to consider and alternatives to amalgams that need to be understood so as to avoid leaping from the proverbial frying pan into the fire.

The breaking of covalent bonds and mobilization of metals is another step that needs to be approached wisely. For instance, mercury that was once free flowing in the blood may be bonded with cells in the brain. Those bonds have to be broken in order to remove the mercury, and once mobilized, the mercury has to be eliminated, not just circulated and reabsorbed. Planning and preparing carefully are essential to a happy outcome.

Once committed to resolving mercury-related problems, many seek the advice of chelation specialists or mercury-free dentists. This webinar will help people to understand their options as well as how to interpret the plethora of advice offered by people who may not understand the bigger picture.
